Pinkpop vinyl and Japanese paper sleeve CDs

05-05-2008

To coincide with PT's performance at the Pinkpop festival in Holland, ToneFloat have pressed a special pink vinyl edition of the Fear of a Blank Planet double LP in a limited run of 500 copies. This is already sold out on the ToneFloat website, but the PT store will be making a small number of copies available following the festival. At the same time a deluxe vinyl version of the new No-Man album "Schoolyard Ghosts" (packaged in a slipcase with 16 page 12x12 booklet and a bonus 7 inch) will also be available to order. For more information please check the Tonefloat website.

In the meantime, paper sleeve CD editions of the early PT albums have now been released in Japan on WHD Entertainment. There are 7 titles - On the Sunday of Life..., Up the Downstair (2CD), Voyage 34, The Sky Moves Sideways (2CD), Signify (2CD), Coma Divine (2CD), and Stars Die - the Delerium Years (2CD). The audio content is the same as the Snapper remasters, but the packaging is really special, with each album housed in a miniature thick card vinyl-style gatefold sleeve. Disk Union Japan have also produced a box set based on the Coma Divine artwork. Please note that due to export restrictions we cannot get copies of the box set or the mini LPs to sell from the PT store - however there are several reputable Japanese dealers that sell them on eBay at standard local Japanese prices (search for "porcupine mini lp" making sure to search worldwide), though the box set was only produced in very limited quantities and is already quite scarce. Later in the year there will be a second series of paper sleeves covering the albums from Stupid Dream to Fear of a Blank Planet.

In October Porcupine Tree will undertake a short European tour in order to shoot their second live DVD - this will be the final time that the Fear of a Blank Planet tour repertoire will be performed, but there may also be some surprises! The first show to be announced is at the Indigo2 venue in London. This is situated within the same building (formerly the Millenium Dome) as the O2 Arena, and is a wonderful new venue. Tickets will shortly be on sale from ticketmaster.

The deluxe vinyl edition of We Lost the Skyline is now available from the PT Store in 2 different coloured vinyls - regular black, and a limited edition marbled vinyl. Both editions are pressed on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a beautiful heavy duty gatefold sleeve - the usual quality that ToneFloat vinyl releases are rightly acclaimed for.

Also a reminder to pre-order your copy of the Lightbulb Sun CD/DVDA reissue, as the first 5,000 pre-orders will receive the bonus CD EP containing "Novak" and "Buying New Soul (instrumental backing track)".

UPDATE (26/3) : Less than 500 copies of the special edition Lightbulb Sun with bonus disc left!

Saarbrucken broadcast

03-14-2008

An edited TV special of Porcupine Tree's show at Saarbrucken, Germany on 23rd September 2006, is currently being broadcast on IM1.TV in Germany - it can be picked up on digital astra satellite in Europe and in most German states on cable. The next broadcast of the one hour program will take place on Tuesday, 18th March at 8.00 p.m. The special was filmed during the Arriving Somewhere tour when the band were premiering their new (as then unrecorded) Fear of a Blank Planet album - however the broadcast only includes the second half of the show, not the FOABP material (sorry!)

Bonus Lightbulb Sun CD

03-12-2008

For a limited time all copies of the new Lightbulb Sun reissue that are ordered from the PT Store will receive a bonus CD containing 2 rarities from the Lightbulb Sun era. "Novak" is an instrumental which was originally issued on the B-side of the 7 inch single of Shesmovedon, but which has never been released on CD before. "Buying New Soul (original instrumental track)" is the backing track as it was cut live in the studio by the band - at 14.27 it runs almost 4 minutes longer than the finished version since a whole section was removed before being overdubbed with vocals for release on the Recordings CD. Note that all orders already placed will automatically have this CD added to their order. The CD is not available to purchase separately and is only included with orders including the pre-order of the 2 disc reissue of Lightbulb Sun.

Lightbulb Sun is also in preparation for release as a 2LP vinyl edition.

Lightbulb Sun reissue

03-06-2008

A brand new edition of the long out of print 2000 Porcupine Tree studio album "Lightbulb Sun" will be issued next month.

Along with "Recordings" (also due for reissue later this year) the album is the missing part of the PT discography. It contains the original studio versions of PT favorites such as Shesmovedon, Russia On Ice, Hatesong, and Feel So Low, and has been lavishly revamped into a definitive 2 disc set. Disc one is a CD containing a pristine remix / remaster of the album, while disc two is a DVDA (playable on any DVD player) containing the album remixed into 5.1 surround sound (in DVDA and DTS versions), as well as a 24 bit high resolution version of the stereo mix, and the original 2000 mix/master. Also included are 5.1 mixes of bonus tracks Disappear, Buying New Soul, and Cure for Optimism, which were recorded during the same sessions. This is the definitive version of one of the essential albums in the PT catalogue.

The album is officially released on 21st April through KScope / Snapper, but is available to pre-order now from the PT Store - these pre-orders will ship 2 weeks earlier. Please note that due to the very weak dollar we are unable to compete with prices at US retail outlets like Amazon, so to make savings on both the price and the shipping costs we do suggest that US customers wait until the album is officially released.
